How to use
Get set up in a few minutes and control your Homey Pro smart home from the car’s built-in screen. Everything below happens on the car display, with your phone used only once, for sign-in.
Getting started
What you need
A Homey Pro and a car running Android Automotive OS (Google built-in). Smart Home Automotive is a paid app on Google Play, and once you own it you can install it on your car for free.
Install it in the car
Open Google Play on the car and install Smart Home Automotive. You can also install it remotely from the Play Store website by choosing your car as the device.
Sign in with a QR code
Open the app and tap Get started. The car shows a QR code. Scan it with your phone, log in to your Homey account in the phone’s browser, and the car connects automatically. No passwords are ever typed into the car.
Allow location (optional)
Only needed for Homecoming mode. On the car, open Settings, then Privacy, then See all apps, choose Smart Home Automotive, then Permissions, then Location, and allow it. You can skip this if you do not use Homecoming.
Everyday use
Your driving dashboard
Start shows colour coded tiles for your favourite devices and flows. On the road this is your one tap view: tap a tile to toggle it, no scrolling. Add or rearrange favourites in Settings while parked.
Full control in Devices & Flows
Browse every device and flow, with detailed controls. The full list is built for when you are parked; while driving the platform keeps it short and simple for safety, so your favourites on the dashboard stay the fastest way to act.
Detailed controls when parked
Dimming, light colour and temperature, thermostat setpoints, blinds and media volume are available when the car is parked, following the platform’s safety rules.
Almost any device
Beyond lights and locks, the app also controls blinds, climate, media, and other types such as garage doors, fans and devices with modes. Anything else can be run through a Homey flow.
Refresh anytime
Tap Refresh in Devices & Flows to pull the latest status from your Homey. You will see a short “Refreshing” note, then a “Done” confirmation.
Optional app lock
Turn on a 4-digit PIN in Settings for an extra layer on top of your car’s own profile. It is stored encrypted on the device and is off by default.
Homecoming and automatic flows
Homecoming is optional and off by default. Set your home location and a radius in Settings, and choose which devices appear on the Homecoming screen. As you approach home, those devices are one tap away.
You can also have a Homey flow run automatically when you arrive home or when you leave. These automatic flows work while the app is open in the car. For reliable, always-on automation, let Homey handle it based on your phone’s presence. Location is read on the device only, in the foreground, and never leaves the car.
Good to know
Needs a connection
The app talks to your Homey over the internet, so the car needs mobile data. Right after a cold start it can take a moment for the car to come online. If an automatic flow cannot run because there is no network yet, the app runs it once the connection is back.
Seven languages
The app follows your car’s language: Swedish, English, German, French, Spanish, Norwegian and Danish.
Private by design
Device data goes directly between the app and your own Homey. There are no ads, no analytics and no tracking. See the privacy policy for details.
